Food Tip #2: Use Panko for reduced calories

Do you know about Panko? Well, it’s a Japanese-style breadcrumb used as a coating for deep-fried foods. It is becoming popular among Trinis who are accustomed to using Crix, Bread and even Corn flakes to make crumbs.

Panko is a bit different as it’s made from bread without crusts which is coarsely ground into airy, large flakes that give fried foods a light, crunchy coating.

The flakes don’t absorb much oil resulting in reduced calories and the fried food is generally crispier than those made with standard breadcrumbs.

Trinis simply cannot get enough of fried chicken, fish and shrimp so try it today.

I have switched to this and the kids love it. I have only seen this 'plain' so I add my own seasoning to it. Try it and add your own Trini flavour to it by mixing in your favourite local herbs.  For me, that means lots of chadon beni!

  1. I'd be lying if I said I've never seen this brand. Less oil is a better option any day of the week. Thanks for the advice.
