Sadha Bake

Have you ever realised late at night you have no bread for sandwiches in the morning?  How do you improvise?  I make sadha bake!
It’s my thicker version of sadha and some can even call it my version of pita bread.  This is easier to cut into than traditional sadha which is very thin and is more satisfying.  Doesn’t take much time to make and these are basic ingredients every household would have on hand. A tawah is normally used but a flat griddle will give the same results.
So try this recipe whenever you’re in such a predicament or use it regularly to reduce the cost of buying bread all the time.

Ingredients

4 cups flour
4 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. instant yeast
1 tbsp. sugar
1 ½ cups warm water or more as required

Butter or oil for tahwa

Instructions

1.   Mix dry ingredients together in a bowl.
2.   Make a hole in the centre and add water gradually, mixing until you get soft, pliable smooth dough. Knead well.
3.   Cover with damp cloth and leave to rest for 30 minutes.
4.   Divide dough into four pieces and shape into round balls.
5.   Roll each ball of dough on a floured board into a flat round shape about an inch thick.
6.   Heat tawah over medium flame until it is moderately hot.
7.   Cook dough on tawah until it rises, bubbles appear and underside is lightly browned.
8.   Using heat resistant spatula, turn to other side and cook.
9.   Place on paper towel on plate and cover with paper or clean kitchen towel.

10.   Serve hot.

Nb. For a healthier version, substitute 1 cup of white flour with 1 cup of whole wheat flour.
Will you try this option to save on buying bread which is so expensive now?

  1. Yum!!!! Sada Bake! I tried it, great recipe! The kids loved it, and kept asking for more. Little john ate all of it, and he usually hates my cooking :-)
